The Old Charter story began in 1874, when Adam and Ben Chapeze named their whiskey after the Charter Oak tree that grew on Wyllys Hyll in Hartford, Connecticut. A 600-year old symbol, the Charter Oak represents American freedom and independence. The name conveys the significant role that white oak barrels play in the making of the greatest American whiskeys.
